ECHOES OF ECO

OUTCOME

The project at Tin Sheds Gallery (TSG) successfully enhanced collaboration and resonance between TSG and its audience, supporting sustainable design principles. It effectively educated visitors about sustainable practices. These interactive and dynamic archives became valuable long-term resources for future generations, enriching the educational experience for students and the broader community. The project fostered a deeper emotional connection with TSG's primary audience, increased their awareness of sustainable design, and solidified TSG's role as a hub for sustainability education and practice.

CHALLENGE

Creating comprehensive and culturally sensitive content that effectively educates on sustainability while remaining engaging for a diverse audience was challenging and resource-intensive. Additionally, balancing resource allocation between advancing technological innovations and maintaining traditional art exhibits was a continuous challenge. Ensuring that the development and implementation of these technologies adhered to sustainable practices added an extra layer of complexity, increasing the overall demands of the project.

How can speculative design and futuring help us to engage with the archives and possible future of galleries?

REFLECTION

In our project design, we have consistently adhered to sustainable design principles, focusing on a future scenario of intense global competition and Australia's steadfast commitment to sustainable development. Based on this future scenario, we analyzed TSG's current activities and integrated interactions with past archives to attract audiences interactively. We established interactive archive experiences at bus stations and promoted awareness of electronic waste recycling in exhibitions to raise awareness of future sustainable development challenges. Through these efforts, we seamlessly merged future sustainability concerns with TSG's existing archive themes.

During my design process, I realized the importance of team division of labor. Each member has strengths in interface design, modeling, rendering, or strong writing skills. Everyone needs to perform their roles perfectly within their expertise and collaborate seamlessly. Each person fulfilling their responsibilities is crucial. Whether task allocation or time management, having a pivotal member to lead the team is vital. This approach not only improved our efficiency but also ensured the high-quality completion of the project.
